“Keep Things Very Simple.” – Keith, niche sites builder

Story by Keith

Building niche sites & helping others do the same. Transitioning from self-employed to investor.

1. How and when did you make your first dollar online?

Believe it or not, it was 1996 when the Internet as we know it was in its infancy.

I wrote a little utility program and released it as shareware. Somebody found it online and paid me the first registration of $10.

Then I worked completely offline for many years before returning in 2009 and then again in 2020.

2. How long did it take between the idea and this first dollar?

Just a few months.

3. What best actionable advice would you give to someone who wants to start TODAY?

When someone is starting out, the most important thing that they should learn is delayed gratification.

If they are taking the niche site route, it might be six months to a year before they make their first dollar. Not many people have the patience for this.

That’s also a good thing in a way. It’s a natural barrier to entry.

4. What resources would you recommend to a beginner?

Keep things very simple and avoid getting distracted with too many tools. It’s possible to make money online simply by using the free version of WordPress, a free theme, and doing keyword research for free on Google.

Also, a beginner can stay organized by using the free version of Google Sheets.

In the beginning, the fewer moving parts, the better! Once a beginner is ready to scale up a bit, they can consider paid tools at that stage.

5. Who would you recommend to follow?

Too many to mention, but here are just a few who spring to mind!
